Fidel Gamboa
Musical director, lyricist and singer for Malpaís, and composer, arranger and interpreter with broad experience. Along with playing saxophone, guitar and flute, Fidel has composed a large number of works for dance, theater and chamber groups. He was a member of Grupo Experimental and several jazz groups.

Iván Rodríguez
Violinist in the National Symphonic Orchestra for twenty years, and member of Adrián Goizueta’s Grupo Experimental and the Probus Ensemble string quartet. Iván also plays mandolin, guitar, keyboard, Celtic flute and percussion. He has composed music for dance and theater and is one of the founders of the Jazz Café, indisputable focal point for Costa Rica’s urban musicians and numerous international figures. He directs the International Festival of Arts in Costa Rica.

Carlos "Tapado" Vargas
Percussionist known for his great creativity and excellent technique, formed in the National Symphonic Orchestra. “Tapao”has been a member of notably groups like the Jazz Latino Sextet and Editus, which recently won a Grammy.

Philologist, publicist, poet and bass player. Jaime Gamboa has written much of the lyrics of Malpaís’ songs, along with his brother Fidel, and shares responsibility for organizing the International Festival of Arts with Iván Rodríguez.

Gilberto Jarquín
A young drummer. He has already packed in extensive experience as a member of Indigo, Nueva Trova and the Jazz Latino Sextet, playing with prominent folklorists such as Guadalupe Urbina, as well as jazz and hip hop artists, including Sasha Campbell, Walter Flores and Checo Dávila.
